The reigning US Open champion Cori Coco Gauff is out of this year’s edition of the tournament. The American tennis talent lost in the Round of 16 to her compatriot Emma Navarro by 1-2 (3:6, 6:4, 3:6) in 2 hours and 14 minutes
Cori Coco Gauff made 19 double faults and 60 unforced errors, which brought an advantage for her opponent.
Emma Navarro took the first set with a single break in the sixth game, and in the second part she led with a break for 4:3, but allowed her rival to realize a reversal. She dominated in the decisive third part after taking an early 3:1 lead, and then won her opponent’s serve again in the ninth game, securing the final success.
Emma Navarro started the year as number 31 in the world, but is already on the threshold of the Top 10. For her, this will be her second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.
“It was not easy at all. We both had difficulties and the match turned into a battle. I am proud of my performance”, said Emma Navarro.
The two tennis players also played at Wimbledon, when Emma Navarro prevailed in straight-sets. Today, the 12th-seeded American in the world once again defeated her compatriot and denied her the intention to defend her title in New York.
