Defending US Open champion Cori Coco Gauff, who advanced to the third round after a 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) win over Tatjana Maria (Germany), said she will one day win a second title at Flushing Meadows.
“Overall, I played well. I could have served better. I think that would have made the first set much easier”, commented Cori Coco Gauff. “I don’t feel pressure, I have nothing to lose. I’m 20 years old, and I already have one Grand Slam title. Whether it’s this year or not, I have the potential to win more”, added the American tennis player.
Cori Coco Gauff‘s next opponent in New York will be Elina Svitolina (Ukraine).
“The match was quite dangerous. In the sense that Tatiana is not someone you play against and then feel great”, said also Cori Coco Gauff, adding: “It was about executing my plan”.
Cori Coco Gauff also addressed Caroline Garcia’s statement that she was insulted on social media after her loss in the first round of the US Open, with illegal betting among the main reasons.
The American tennis player admitted there were times she spent 30 minutes blocking offending social media accounts, but people kept creating new accounts.
“If you’re already struggling with your own mental health issues and on top of that you’ve got people digging deeper, it’s hard. You can be having a good day and then someone literally says to you, ‘Oh, go kill yourself.'” We hope , that things with artificial intelligence can help in the future”, commented the 20-year-old American tennis player.
