The US women’s 4x400m relay team won the Olympic title in Paris. Shamier Little, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Gabrielle Thomas and Alexis Holmes won the gold medals in a new continental record of 3:15.27 min. The American women fell just 10 hundredths off the world record in the event, set by the Soviet athletes in Seoul in 1988.
Thus, Gabrielle Thomas will leave Paris with three gold medals, after winning the individual 200m title and taking gold with the 4x100m relay. For Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, this is the second gold after the individual with a world record 400m hurdles.
The Netherlands (Lieke Klaver, Cathelijn Peeters, Lisanne de Witte and Femke Bol) set a new national record for silver medals – 3:19.50 min.
The British relay team (Victoria Ohuruogu, Laviai Nielsen, Nicole Yeargin and Amber Anning) also set a national record of 3:19.72 min for the bronze medals.
