Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA) made a stunning defense of her 400m hurdles title at the Paris 2024 Olympics and equaled her own world record as she finished with a smashing lead of 50.37 sec. She bettered her own world record of 50.65 sec, which she set at the US qualifiers in Eugene earlier in the season. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone sent her own Tokyo 2021 Olympic record of 51.46 sec into history.
Second place went to her American compatriot Anna Cockrell with a personal best of 51.87 sec.
The European record holder and bronze medalist from the previous Tokyo Games, Femke Bol, finished third again with 52.15 sec.
