The reigning Olympic champions of the USA qualified for the finals at Paris 2024 Olympics and will be able to defend their title from Tokyo 2020. The Karch Kiraly-led girls defeated Brazil by 3-2 (25:23, 18:25, 25:15, 23:25, 15:11) in the semi-final of the Paris 2024 Olympics, played at South Parry Arena 1.
The match was a repeat of the final in Tokyo three years ago, when the American team won by 3-0. Thus, the USA qualified for the grand final, which happened for the 4th time in the last five Olympic Games.
In the final, the American women will face Italy, who eliminated Turkey. The battle for the Olympic title will be on the last day of the Games, Sunday (August 11).
Brazil failed to qualify again for the final of the Olympics and will play for bronze for the first time since Athens 2004 when they finished in 4th place. The bronze medal match is on Saturday (August 10).
Above all for the USA was Kathryn Plummer with a great 26 points (2 blocks, 1 ace, 52% attack efficiency, and 47% perfect reception) for the victory. Avery Skinner (3 blocks, 1 ace, 37% offensive efficiency, and 59% perfect reception) and Andrea Drews (1 ace and 57% offensive efficiency) added 19 and 18 points for the win.
For Brazil, Ana Cristina Souza scored 24 points (2 blocks, 50% attack efficiency and 24% perfect reception). The captain &Gabriela Guimaraes (1 block, 32% offensive efficiency, and 87% perfect reception), and Rosamaria Montibeller (2 blocks and 33% offensive efficiency) contributed 16 and 14 points, but their efforts were not enough to win.
