Two-time world champion Chase Jackson (USA) failed to qualify for the women’s shot put final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The American athlete had two fouls and then managed just 17.60m on her third attempt, almost two meters short of the qualifying standard of 19.15m, to finish 17th in the overall ranking. Only the top 12 continue to Friday’s final.
It was a bad end to an Olympics that also got off to a bad start for the 2022 and 2023 world champion after the 30-year-old Chase Jackson posted a video on social media of herself crying because her team was failing.
“I really don’t know what happened. I guess the pressure got to me more. I don’t have anything to say about it. I just want to get back to my family”, said Chase Jackson
Only three competitors cleared the qualifying standard, with Sarah Mitton (Canada) leading the jumps with 19.77m.
