Gabrielle Thomas (USA) won the women’s 200m Olympic title at the Paris Games. The 27-year-old American athlete, who was third in the same discipline in Tokyo three years ago, was absolutely unchallenged this time in the battle for the gold medal and triumphed with 21.83 sec (-0.6 m/s).
Paris 2024 Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred brought more joy to St Lucia after taking silver in the half lap in 22.08 sec. American dominance in the 200m was complemented by Brittany Brown, who fought for the bronze with 22.20 sec.
Only 0.02 sec separated Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) from the bronze. She finished fourth in 22.22 sec. Her compatriot and 200m silver medalist at the European Championships in Rome in June this year, Daryll Neita, was 0.03 sec off third place, occupying fifth position. The two British women were also the only Europeans in this final.
