Paula Badosa (Spain) won the women’s title at the WTA 500 Mubadala Citi DC Open hard court tennis tournament in Washington (USA) with a prize money of 922,573 USD.
The Spanish tennis player returned from a back injury and defeated Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) in the final with 2-1 (6:1, 4:6, 6:4).
The 26-year-old Paula Badosa, a former world No 2, was out for six months last year with an injury but has now returned to form to claim a fourth career title.
The match was interrupted twice due to rain, with Paula Badosa adapting better to the harsh conditions and managing to come away with the win.
“A year ago I was on the couch and now I’m holding the title, so now it’s a big difference. I’m an athlete again… I’m winning a title after two years”, said Paula Badosa. “I’ve played four finals and won four of them. That’s what I had in mind today in the third set. I’m saying to myself: Paula, you’re capable of doing this in another final”, added she.
