Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce: I can’t find words for how deep my disappointment is

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Olympics

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica) said she was extremely disappointed to have missed out on a chance to compete for a medal in the 100m sprint at the athletics event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic champion suffered the injury during the warm-up before the event’s semi-final heats and was unable to extend her streak of sprint honors to a fifth straight Games after taking bronze at Rio 2016 and silver at Tokyo 2020.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 37, said on social media that she was “at a loss for words” to describe “how deep” her disappointment was.

“I know that all my supporters sympathize with me and share my disappointment. I want to thank for the support of the people, my country, the whole community that has accompanied me throughout my career. With my every step and victory you have been with me. My faith has always guided me on my path”, commented the sprinter, who has eight Olympic medals, three of which are gold.

There were initially reports that the Jamaican was not allowed into the pre-competition warm-up area, but these were denied by the organizers.

Julien Alfred won the Olympic title in the women’s 100m sprint and brought home the first gold in Saint Lucia’s history. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has been declared for participation in the 4x100m relay, in which Jamaica will defend its title from Tokyo 2020. The quartet competition is on August 9.
