Simone Biles won the gold medal in the gymnastics team competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics, overtaking Shannon Miller in the list of the most decorated US gymnasts. The 27-year-old American won her eighth Olympic medal and fifth gold. She has another silver and two bronze medals.
From the beginning of her career, Simone Biles was intent on pushing the sport in new directions by showing things that had never been done before. Five events currently carry her name in the rules after she successfully performed them at international competitions – two on vault, two on floor and one on beam.
There’s a chance the American can add a sixth if she tries out her new mixed parallel bars exercise. Simone Biles didn’t attempt it during Sunday’s qualifying or Tuesday’s team final. She could still do it in Thursday’s individual all-around final.
