Caroline Wozniacki recorded an incredible victory in the second round of Wimbledon

Caroline Wozniacki Wimbledon

Former world’s number one Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) recorded an incredible victory in the second round of Wimbledon, saving two match points en route to a 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 7:6) win over 30th-seeded Leylah Fernandez (Canada). The match lasted 2:25 hours.

“It’s a great win for me and very difficult. I’m very excited to be here and compete against the best tennis players in the world”, said Caroline Wozniacki after the match.

The match was interrupted at 3:3 in the third set due to darkness on court No 12 and resumed an hour later under the roof of court No 1.

At 4:5 in the last set, Caroline Wozniacki fended off two match points from Leylah Fernandez, took her serve in the 11th game and closed the match with her serve. Caroline Wozniacki is playing in the main draw at Wimbledon for the first time since 2019, after missing the last three editions. She was off the WTA Tour for more than three years due to maternity, but she returned to the court last summer.

In the third round, the 33-year-old Danish tennis player will face the champion of Wimbledon for 2022 and 4th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), who eliminated Laura Siegemund (Germany) by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:3).

Caroline Wozniacki is a two-time Eastbourne grass-court champion but has yet to play in the Wimbledon quarter-finals despite reaching the second week of the tournament six times.
