The Netherlands announced a squad of 59 athletes for the European Athletics Championships in Rome from June 7-12. The triple European champion from Munich 2022, Femke Bol, leads her team to the Italian capital. She will defend her individual title only in the 400m and is also entered for the women’s and medley 4x400m relays.
Femke Bol is the 2023 World Champion, and in the 400m, where she is the 2024 World Indoor Champion and the short track world record holder. In the 4x400m relay, she is the 2023 World Champion and the 2024 World Indoor Champion with the Dutch women’s team. She holds the world record in the 400m short track with a time of 49.17 sec, the European record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.45 sec, and five Dutch records in individual events and relays.
The Dutch athletics team also includes another European champion from two years ago – shot put gold medalist Jessica Schilder.
The Netherlands team other medal hopes in Rome are Nadine Visser in the 100m hurdles, Lieke Klaver in the 400m, Jorinde van Klinken in the shot put and discus throw.
