Cori Coco Gauff advanced to the second round of the Roland Garros

Coco Gauff Roland Garros

The 2022 Roland Garros finalist Cori Coco Gauff has advanced to the second round of the tournament. At the start of the tournament, the American prevailed by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1) over the Russian qualifier Julia Avdeeva. The match lasted just 53 minutes, with the third-seeded Coco Gauff not struggling at any point.

Julia Avdeeva made as many as 23 unprovoked errors against only ten of the US Open champion, which was also a big reason for the serious difference.

In the second round, Coco Gauff will face Tamara Zidansek (Slovenia).

The 11th-seeded Danielle Collins (USA) also passed the first round of Roland Garros. In an all-American clash, she eliminated her compatriot Caroline Dolehide by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4). Danielle Collins made early breaks in both sets and recorded a total of 27 winners to Caroline Dolehide’s 15 to register their 23rd win in their last 26 matches.

The next opponent of Danielle Collins will be Olga Danilovic (Serbia).

In one of the most anticipated matches of the day, the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina defeated Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 6:2). It was the first match between the two in five years, but Elina Svitolina managed to record her fifth consecutive victory over the former world number one. The match was very equal and went through a lot of breaks and twists, but at the end of it the Ukrainian player was fresher and deservedly congratulated herself on the success. For Karolina Pliskova, the loss is the sixth in her last seven matches in all tournaments.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) also advances to the second round of Roland Garros. The 2021 finalist won by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) against Panna Udvardy (Hungary). Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (Canada) also recorded a straight-set victory against Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:1).

The surprise of the day was the knock-out of the sixth-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece), who lost to Varvara Gracheva (France) by 1-2 (6:3, 4:6, 3:6). Maria Sakkari committed a total of 39 unforced errors in the match and missed 11 of 15 break opportunities, which proved fatal to her hopes of victory.
