Three-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the second round of the tournament. The Polish tennis player, who is the leader in the world rankings and top-seeded, defeated the French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean by 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) in just 62 minutes.
The only problematic moment for her was at the beginning of the second set, when she allowed a break, with which Leolia Jeanjean led by 1:0. However, this did not in any way affect Iga Swiatek, who was aiming for a third consecutive title in Paris, and by the end of the match, she gave only one more game to French tennis player.
In the second round, Iga Swiatek will face another former leader in the world ranking – the Japanese player Naomi Osaka.
The 2019 Roland Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova also made it through the first round with ease. The Czech player, who is 5th-seeded, won by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) against Rebeka Masarova (Spain) after a little more than an hour of play.
Marketa Vondrousova took a 5:0 lead in the first set and had no difficulty in taking it. In the second game, she led 4:1, but Rebeka Masarova managed to return one of the two breaks. However, there was no turning point and the Wimbledon champion achieved the success. In the second round, Marketa Vondrousova will face another qualifier – Katie Volynets (USA).
Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) also advanced to the next stage. The Tunisian pllayer defeated Sachia Vickery (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2). The 8th-seeded Ons Jabeur took a solid early lead in both sets and managed to hold onto it.
