The Hungarian capital Budapest is ready to welcome the best rhythmic gymnasts who will compete for medals at the 40th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships for women and girls. The race starts tomorrow, and preparations continue all day today on the part of the hosts, who are trying to cope with all aspects of the organization.
The competition will be held in the Laszlo Papp Budapest Sports Arena, which has a capacity of 12,500 seats and is located near the new Puskas Arena stadium. The facility is named after Hungarian professional boxer Laszlo Papp, who became Olympic champion at the London 1948, Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956 Games.
In addition to European participants, gymnasts from Australia and New Zealand (with their own continental rankings) will also be present at the championships.
According to the program, the competition starts tomorrow with the girls’ qualifications for the individual devices and team ranking.
About 300 competitors from 40 countries will participate in the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship – 100 girls, 97 women and 19 ensembles. The last quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics will also be distributed – one each in the individual and in the ensemble competition.
Budapest is organizing this event for the third time after the successful editions in 1999 and 2017.
