Wild card’s Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) qualified for the second round of the WTA 500 Charleston Open clay tennis tournament with a prize money of 922,573 USD. The Danish tennis player defeated the “lucky loser” from the qualifiers McCartney Kessler (USA) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:1) in 61 minutes on the court.

It was Caroline Wozniacki’s first win on clay since her last appearance in Charleston in 2019, when she reached her third final in the competition. The Danish tennis player took the title in 2011, defeating Elena Vesnina (Russia) in the final, but lost the trophy matches to Sabine Lisicki (Germany) in 2009 and to Madison Keys (USA) in 2019.

Caroline Wozniacki‘s next opponent will be 15th-seeded Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine).

The American player Amanda Anisimova also qualified for the second round after defeating Alize Cornet (France) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0) in 85 minutes and secured a match with the top-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA).

The WTA 500 Charleston Open tournament also offered the longest match of the year in women’s tennis. The 22-year-old American qualifier Katie Volynets defeated Arantxa Rus (Netherlands) by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 7:6) in a match that lasted 3:43 hours.

The match lasted a minute longer than the previous longest in 2024 – Beatriz Haddad Maia’s victory versus Magda Linette in the second round in Abu Dhabi, that lasted 3:42 hours.
