Marte Olsbu Roiseland recorded her fourth victory in five pursuits since the start of the season at the Biathlon World Cup after being uncompromising in the 10km race in Ruhpolding, Germany.
The Norwegian started from the second position, but was flawless on the firing line and shot down all 20 targets. She thus reached her sixth success for the campaign, and Elvira Oeberg, the winner of Wednesday’s sprint, finished second with 20.8 seconds behind her. The Swede conceded one miss in both shots from lying down, after which she was infallible on the right and thus defeated her older sister Hanna Oeberg, who finished third 32.4 seconds behind Marte Olsbu Roiseland.
Hanna Oeberg shot down her first 15 targets but made a penalty lap in her last shot, which cost her the chance to fight her sister. The same achievement on the Ignatian border was registered by the fourth today Anaïs Bescond from France. Fifth place went to the third Swede Linn Persson, who had one mistake in both straight shots.
Marte Olsbu Roiseland passes Elvira Oeberg for lane one and knocks down all fives targets while the Swede misses. That’s the experience of having been in this position time and time again showing through.
With her sixth win of the season, Marte Olsbu Roiseland increased her lead at the top of the overall standings, where she led Elvira Oeberg with 881 points. Third with a liability of 152 is the Belarusian Dzinara Alimbekava, who today finished sixth with a total of three errors and a loss of two positions compared to the sprint.
In the battle for the small crystal globe, Marte Olsbu Roiseland led by 283 points, followed by Elvira and Hanna Oeberg, who have 234 and 228 points respectively. This was the last pursuit in the World Cup before the Olympic Games in Beijing next month, as the program in Antholz-Anterselva next week provides starts in the individual disciplines, relay, and mass start.
