The world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open tennis tournament with a prize pool of 9.25 million USD. The top-seeded and leader in the world ranking Polish tennis player won the first set versus Caroline Wozniacki by 6:4, who ended her participation in the match at the very beginning of the second set.
Iga Swiatek, who won the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open title in 2022, trailed 1:4, but made a comeback to 6:4, then led 1:0 in the second set as well. Then the Danish tennis player and formed world’s number one got an injury in her right leg and could not continue her participation in the match.
Caroline Wozniacki won the final in Indian Wells in 2011, while Iga Swiatek will be playing in a third straight semi-final in California.
In the semi-finals, Iga Swiatek will face the 31st-seeded Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine), who eliminated Anastasia Potapova (Russia) after 2-0 (6:0, 7:5).
