The 3,000m steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech (Kenya) predicted a bright future for herself this season after winning her first medal at the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Giving her self-assessment, Beatrice Chepkoech explained that so far her body is responding well and this is her year and she wants to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics this summer. In her first Olympic appearance, the Kenyan long-distance runner finished fourth at Rio de Janeiro 2016. In 2021, she was again included in Kenya’s squad for the postponed Tokyo Games, where she placed seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase final.

“This year will be good for me because at least my injury is now healed and I’m heading to the Olympics hoping to win an Olympic medal. I started my campaign at the 2016 Olympics and this will be the third time I will be competing at the Olympics and I hope to win this medal”, said Beatrice Chepkoech.

The world 3000m steeplechase silver medalist revealed she will only compete in her crown event as she hopes to win a medal in her event first.

She noted that for the African Games, she will aim to compete in the 5,000m as she prepares for the most important forum of the year.

“Yes… I will compete in the 5000 meters. I’m coming off a 3000m indoor race, so now I’ll go for speed endurance in Ghana and then come back and work on my speed”, added Beatrice Chepkoech.

Beatrice Chepkoech won gold medals at the 2019 World Championships and 2018 African Championships and silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. In the 1,500m, she took silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2015 African Games. Beatrice Chepkoech is a two-time 3,000m steeplechase Diamond League champion and won two Kenyan national titles.
