Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year 2024 nominees

Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year 2024 nominees were announced. The Laureus is recognized as the Ultimate Global Athletes’ Award and remains the gold standard for the stars of world sport. For the prestigious award are nominated six sportswoman, who have the biggest impact on the development of their sports.

Here are the nominations:

Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati
Aitana Bonmati is the current holder of Ballon d’Or Feminin and during the season won every tournament that her teams, Barcelona Femeni and Spanish national team, could compete in, being named the player of the tournament in all of them with such an accolade, and was recognized with the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award. With the Spanish national team she won the World Cup and was named the tournament’s best player.

American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin
Mikaela Shiffrin had her remarkable season in 2023, improving the all-time mark of 86 World Cup wins set by Ingemar Stenmark. She also won her seventh World Championship gold in giant slalom.

“There is nothing like the Laureus Awards when it comes to bringing athletes together to celebrate not just what we’ve all achieved, but the impact sport has globally. Laureus gives us a unique platform to interact with each other and make a difference”, said Mikaela Shiffrin for her nomination.

Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon
Faith Kipyegon became the first woman to win the double of 1,500m and 5,000m at the Budapest World Athletics Championships. She is the current world record holder for the 1,500m and mile, both set in 2023. Faith Kipyegon won the Diamond League Final in 1,500m.

American athlete Sha’Carri Richardson
Sha’Carri Richardson won a classic 100m in her first global final at the Budapest World Athletics Championships in a new championships record time of 10.65 sec. Later, she added the 4x100m relay gold with a championship record of 41.03 sec.

Jamaican athlete Shericka Jackson
Shericka Jackson’s winning time of 21.41 sec in the 200m was the second fastest all-time, seven hundredths of a second short of Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 35-year-old mark. She won three medals at the Budapest World Athletics Championships, winning the gold in 200m, as well as the silver in 100m and 4x100m relay. She smashed the competition at the Diamond League, winning the gold in both events – 100m and 200m.

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek won her third French Open title in 2023, and regained her No.1 spot in the world rankings with victory at the WTA Finals in Cancun. During the season, she also won the titles at the WTA 1000 China Open, WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open, and WTA 250 BNP Paribas Poland Open, as well as finished as a runner-up at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open and WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
