Jasmine Paolini (Italy) triumphed with the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title, winning her career second WTA title. In the final, the Italian tennis player made a comeback and prevailed by 2-1 (4:6, 7:5, 7:5) over the qualifier Anna Kalinskaya (Russia).
Anna Kalinskaya, who on her way to the title match defeated three Top 10 players – world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland), world’s number three Cori Coco Gauff (USA), and world’s number nine Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia), took the first set with 6:4. after managing to make three breaks.
The Russian tennis player led with a break at the beginning of the second set as well, but Jasmine Paolini did not lose her composure and returned to the match after 7:5 in the second set.
However, the most dramatic was the decisive third set, in which Anna Kalinskaya led by 5:3, but with a great play Jasmine Paolini turned the match to take her second title after the WTA 250 Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz in 2021.
After triumphing with the title at the the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Jasmine Paolini, 28, will move into the top 15 of the women’s world rankings for the first time in her career.
The prize pool of the Dubai tournament is just over 3.2 million USD.
