The Greek basketball team of Olympiacos lost the first match versus Turkey’s Nesibe Aydin in the Round of 16 of the FIBA Women’s European Cup with 79:83 (17:18, 17:25, 18:22, 27:18). The match was held in the Peace and Friendship Hall in Piraeus, Greece.
Olympiacos started the match aggressively and in the very first minutes took a lead of 5 points, but the Turkish players stopped their impetus and took the initiative ending the first quarter with a point in advance.
However, the second quarter was with total domination of Nesibe Aydin’s players, who increased their lead to 11 points during it. Eventually, the quarter ended with a result of 17:25 and the Turkish team had a comfortable advance of 9 points.
Despite the early impetus of Olympiacos at the beginning of the third quarter, Nesibe Aydin’s players didn’t lose the initiative and continued increasing their lead. In the middle of the quarter, they had 17 points in advance to their Greek opponent but finished the quarter with only 13 points.
Olympiacos made a final assault to take the match and had a really impressive fourth quarter when they succeeded to reduce the advantage of Nesibe Aydin to only 4 points. However, this was not enough, and the Turkish players won the match.
The most valuable player for Nesibe Aydin was the Lithuanian Kamile Nacickaite with 27 pts, 6 rebs, and 6 asts, while American Alaina Coates added 20 pts, 13 rebs, and 3 asts.
For Olympiacos, Evdokia Stamati recoded 20 pts, 1 reb, and 3 asts, while Michelle Plouffe added 14 pts, 7 rebs, and 2 asts.
The second match between Olympiacos and Nesibe Aydin will be played on Wednesday, January 19 in Ankara, Turkey.
