The world’s number two Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) has admitted she is addicted to winning and remains hungry for titles after her triumph at the Australian Open earlier this year.
The Belarusian tennis player won her second Grand Slam title in Melbourne last month, becoming the first woman in 11 years to defend her Australian Open title. However, she does not intend to rest on her laurels.
“My mentality is to keep doing what I’m doing, to keep fighting, to keep working. After my career, to look back and think ‘wow, I was able to achieve that.’ It’s crazy”, said Aryna Sabalenka, who starts at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships today against Donna Vekic.
“I’m not one of those people who will win something and stop. I’m addicted to winning. I feel like it’s something in my blood and I keep doing it, I keep working and I hope I keep winning”, said Aryna Sabalenka. “In the end, the only thing that helps me is myself, I just stopped expecting people to solve my problems, I started to solve my problems myself. I think that brought a lot more confidence and a lot more control”, added she.
Aryna Sabalenka is a Belarusian professional tennis player. She is a former world No 1 in both singles and doubles by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Aryna Sabalenka has won two major singles titles, at the 2023 and 2024 Australian Opens, and two major doubles titles at the 2019 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open, both partnering Elise Mertens. She has won 20 career titles in total, 14 in singles and six in doubles.
