The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu (Great Britain) advanced to the second round of the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open hard court tennis tournament with a prize fund of 922,573 USD.
The British woman prevailed over the former Wimbledon quarterfinalist Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in 82 minutes.
The wild card Emma Raducanu, who missed the last eight months of last year with injuries, returned to action in Australia last month. She has played three tournaments so far since her return to the court and has won a match in each of them.
Emma Raducanu will now look to reach her first quarter-final of the season when she faces the second-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) in the second round. This will be the first match between the two so far.
In other matches of the tournament, the seventh-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) eliminated Diane Parry (France) after 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 6:4), and Sorana Cirstea (Romania) won her match versus Caroline Garcia (France) by 2-1 (6:7, 6:4, 6:4).
The 6th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) defeated Wang Xiyu (China) (6:2, 7:6), and Ashlyn Krueger (USA) prevailed over compatriot Bernarda Pera by 2-1 (6:2, 5:7, 6:3).
