Mirela Demireva won the high jump gold in Ghent

Rio 2016 Olympics silver medalist in the high jump, Mirela Demireva, achieved another victory in the sector after returning from an injury that kept her out for more than a year. The Bulgarian athlete won the competition in Ghent with an achievement of 1.86ms. During the season, she is 1.93m.

Mirela Demireva cleared her opening height of 1.80m on her third attempt, then cleared 1.83m and 1.86m on her first attempt. After her success at 1.86m, she raised the bar to 1.97m, but made three fouls at that height.

The second place in the high jump sector in Ghent was taken by Louise Ekman (Sweden) with 1.83m, and the third with the same result was Fedra Fekete (Hungary).

Mirela Demireva is a Bulgarian high jumper. she did not reach the final at the 2006 World Junior Championships, but won the silver medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships. She was again knocked out in the first round at the 2011 European U23 Championships.

At the senior level she finished eighth at the 2012 European Championships and seventh at the 2013 European Indoor Championships. She also competed at the 2013 World Championships without reaching the final. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 Mirela Demireva won a silver medal, jumping 1.97m. She also won two consecutive silver medals at the European Championships (2016–18). Mirela Demireva was the 2016 Bulgarian Sportsperson of the Year and came in second place during the 2018 edition of the award. Her personal best jump is 2.00m, achieved in June 2018 at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.
