Nigerian athlete Temitope Adeshina broke the 16-year national record in the women’s high jump event. She earned the gold at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, United states, with 1.96m, which is also her personal best.

Temitope Adeshina absolutely destroyed the field, breaking every record possible to go with it. This is only her second meet in the NCAA.

She began the event with a successful 1.72m jump and maintained her form with first-time clearances up to 1.85m. Temitope Adeshina overcame the 1.88m on her second attempt and effortlessly cleared 1.91m on the first attempt, breaking the school record and the national record. This jump not only established a record for the school, surpassing previous mark of 1.89m but also equalled the facility record set by 13-time US champion Vashti Cunningham four years earlier.

“It’s a great achievement for me”, said Temitope Adeshina after the success. “Thank God I worked for it and God made it happen, and thanks to my coach”, added she.

Ahshareah Enoe (Grenada) finished second with 1.82m, while the American athlete Claire Lowrey and Morgan Smalls shared the bronze with 1.77m.

Temitope Adeshina is the African Championships Silver medalist and two-times national champion.
