The 9th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) started her Australian Open participation with a tough win. The Czech tennis player had to make a turnover to eliminate Mai Hontama (Japan). She pulled out the victory after 2-1 (2:6, 6:4, 6:3) in her favor in nearly 2 and a half hours of play.

The Japanese tennis player won the first set after two break in the 5th and 7th games and even started the second set with a lead breaking for 3:1. However, Barbora Krejcikova improved her first serve and after three more breaks in her favor overturned the set to equalize the score.
