The top-seeded Ashleigh Barty eliminated the champion of the 2020 Australian Open, Sofia Kenin, and after 6:3, 6:4 and qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 500 Adelaide International. The Australian player, who is also the world’s No 1, used her usual weapons – backhand and powerful forehand, but also made 17 aces and scored 31 of 32 points on the first serve.
It was a minimal rematch for Ashleigh Barty, who lost to Sofia Kenin in the semifinals of the 2020 Australian Open.
“It was a lot of fun to play here again and get a little more time on the court to start playing a little better before the Australian Open”, said Ashleigh Barty.
On Wednesday, Ashleigh Barty defeated Cori “Coco” Gauff in three sets almost four months after her last match, and today she made one break in each set and took the success in an hour and 9 minutes.
In the semi-finals, Ashleigh Barty will face the last year’s champion Iga Swiatek.
