Former world’s number one Simona Halep will be heard between February 7 and 9 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. The Romanian tennis player was banned from playing tennis for 4 years due to the use of banned substances.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to speak and prove my innocence before an independent court”, wrote Simona Halep on her social media profile.
Simona Halep, who must serve a sentence until the month of October 2026, when she will be 35 years old, supports the version that she did not take banned substances, and her positive sample was due to nutritional supplements, in which the presence of banned substances was not indicated during the doping test in August 2022.
The anti-doping organization imposed a provisional ban on Halep in October 2022, and in May of this year, the Romanian was charged again with violating the anti-doping program due to “irregularities in her biological passport”, thus imposing the ban until 2026.
