World number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) was named the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
The Polish tennis player won the French Open for the third time and finished the year as the WTA Finals champion. Thus, she regained the first place in the ranking, after briefly being second behind Aryna Sabalenka.
The 22-year-old Iga Swiatek, who has a total of six titles this season, became the first to be named WTA No 1 of the year in two consecutive seasons since Serena Williams from 2012 to 2015.
Storm Hunter (Australia) and Elise Mertens (Belgium) are number one in doubles, while Zheng Qinwen (China) was named the Most Improved Tennis Player of the Year, while Mirra Andreeva (Russia) won the Young Player of the Year award.
Elina Svitolina, who returned to tennis in April after a maternity break, was also honored by the Comeback Player of the Year after reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros and equaling her best Grand Slam result by reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
