French tennis player Alize Cornet will receive a “wild card” to participate in the Australian Open tennis championship in January 2024, the organizers announced. With this, she will extend her record to 68 consecutive Grand Slam appearances, which is a historic achievement. Her total appearances will reach 71, which will also be a new record.
The 16-year-old Russian player Mirra Andreeva will also be in the main draw for the first Grand Slam of the calendar year, as she was not born when Alize Cornet last missed one of the four biggest events on the WTA calendar.
Alize Cornet will turn 34 at the beginning of next year. Her best achievement was reaching WTA No 11 in 2009. She has won six singles and three doubles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as three singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open last year, which is her personal best at the Grand Slam.
