Sofia Goggia won her first victory of the new season in the Alpine Skiing World Cup, after triumphing in the first super-giant slalom of the campaign, which took place in St Moritz (Switzerland). It was also the first start in the speed disciplines overall for men and women, after the bad weather forced the cancellation of a total of seven races so far.

Sofia Goggia went down in number 7 and after a shaky first sector she was very quick in the next three to win in 1:16.63 min and 0.95 sec ahead of Cornelia Hutter (Austria). The Top 3 was completed by last season’s small world cup winner in the discipline Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland), who delayed in 1.02 sec.

Mikaela Shiffrin finished fourth, by 0.06 sec. The top 5 was completed by the winner of the two giant slaloms in Mont Tremblant (Canada) last week, Federica Brignone, who finished 1.21 sec behind her team-mate Sofia Goggia.

In the World Cup, the leader with an asset of 520 points is Mikaela Shiffrin, second with a liability of 129 points is Petra Vlhova (Slovakia), who misses the starts in St Moritz. The third place with 135 points behind completes Lara Gut-Behrami. With her victory in St Moritz, Sofia Goggia climbed to sixth place, which she holds by 314 points from Mikaela Shiffrin.

The season for the Women’s World Cup continues tomorrow with the first downhill of the season. Another Super-G is scheduled for Sunday, which will end the weekend in St Moritz.
