The 19-year-old Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez said her big goal for 2022 is to win a Grand Slam title. Leylah Fernandez, who was a finalist at the US Open in 2021, lost in the second round of the WTA 500 Adelaide International, which is preparatory before the Australian Open. She was eliminated by Iga Swiatek.
“I’ve always had high goals because my parents told me that if you don’t set the bar high, you don’t believe in yourself enough”, said Leylah Fernandez. “I want to be in the top 10, to play in the WTA Finals, and obviously I want to win a Grand Slam tournament”, added the tennis player, who is currently world’s No 24 in the world.
However, Leylah Fernandez adds that real success is not only measured by the results of the court.
“It is important to enjoy tennis. Together with my team we want to continue working with a smile and I hope to end the year healthy, both physically and emotionally”, said the 19-year-old Canadian tennis player.
Leylah Fernandez won her first WTA Tour title at the 2021 Monterrey Open.
