Emma Hayes appointed for United States women’s national team coach

Emma Hayes coach

The US Soccer Federation has officially announced that it has appointed Emma Hayes as the coach of the United States women’s national team. She will replace interim coach Twila Kilgore, two months before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Emma Hayes, 47, currently works for Chelsea Women but announced on November 4 that she will be stepping down as manager at the end of May. She coached the London team for 11 years and won 13 major trophies, but although winning seven times the England Women’s Super League title, her team never succeed to grab the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

“This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history”, said Emma Hayes. “The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep. I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true. I know there is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels. To get there it will require dedication, devotion and collaboration from the players, staff and everyone at the US Soccer Federation”, added she.

The United States women’s national soccer team was eliminated in their first knockout game at the World Cup, losing on penalties to Sweden. Their next matches are two friendlies against China at the beginning of December. In June and July, the team will play four friendlies under the leadership of Emma Hayes to prepare for their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
