The 2021 US Open tennis champion Emma Raducanu has announced through her management agency that she will delay her return to the court.
The British tennis player, who celebrated her 21st birthday on Monday, has not played since April. In May, she underwent wrist and ankle surgeries.
Emma Raducanu was due to take part in an exhibition tournament in Macau in December, but will extend her recovery out off the tennis court. She aimed to focus on fitness.
Emma Raducanu resumed training in August with a view to returning to competitive mode in the new season. The Australian Open starts on January 15 and is the first major tournament of 2024.
After her injuries this season, Emma Raducanu, who is the only qualifier to triumph with the US Open title, has fallen to No 289 in the world rankings. She reached a career-high ranking of No 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on July 11, 2022. Unless the US Open title she is the runner-up at the WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series in Chicago, reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2021 and the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open in 2022.
