The Norwegian athlete Sofia Thogersen targets winning a medal at the European U20 Cross Country Championships in Brussels later this year. She is European U18 champion and two times European U20 silver medalist, holding the national record in 1,500m.
Sofia Thogersen won the women’s Under-20 individual title at the Nordic Cross Country Championships in Reykjavik, Iceland on Sunday. Still only 18, she defended her girls’ Under-20 6km title in 22:10 min and finished 15 sec ahead of her biggest competitor.
Sofia Thogersen completed another excellent track season in which she won silver and bronze in the 1,500m and 5,000m respectively at the European Under-20 Athletics Championships before making her debut at the men’s World Athletics Championships and women in Budapest, setting a Danish record of 4:05.38 minutes in the 1,500m.
The 18-year-old athlete, who is coached by Tomasz Lewandowski, has another chance to build on those silver and bronze medals to gold in the Under-20 event at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on December 10.
