Kenyan athletes triumphed in the Istanbul Marathon with Beatrice Cheptoo crossed the women’s finish line in 2:27:09 hours.
“I am very happy to have won this race; it was tough with the wind and uphill sections. This is my greatest victory so far. I will use part of the prize money for my two children’s school fees”, said Beatrice Cheptoo after winning the marathon.
The women’s top three was also completed by Kenyan athlete. Veronica Maina finished second with 2:27:24 hours, while Valentina Mateiko remained third with 2:32.15 hours. The Ethiopian athletes Worknesh Mola and Sifan Demise completed the Top 5.
A group of seven runners maintained their pace, crossing the 10-kilometre mark in 34:46 min. During the next kilometers, Beatrice Cheptoo, Veronica Maina, and Valentina Mateiko emerged as the frontrunners. Beatrice Cheptoo surged ahead and secured victory in 2:27:09 hours.
The Istanbul Marathon, a distinguished World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, engaged various distances, including the iconic 42,197-kilometre race that traverses from Asia to Europe.
