Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir targets to win the New York City Marathon title again this year, after triumphing on the same course in 2021. Two years ago, the Kenyan athlete won in New York Marathon with a time of 2:22:39 hours.
“I believe I was well prepared and won the race in 2021 when I competed in New York for the first time. I believe that I can win this title again”, said Peres Jepchirchir.
She has a marathon personal best of 2:17:16 hours from her third place in London earlier this year.
“I went to the London Marathon after coming back from an injury that had kept me out of competition for a long time and I was delighted to come third on the podium”, added she.
Peres Jepchirchir is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes mainly in road running competitions. She won the gold medal in the women’s marathon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She was the champion at the 2016 and 2020 World Half Marathon Championships. Peres Jepchirchir claimed victories at the 2021 New York City and 2022 Boston Marathon and finished third at the 2023 London Marathon.
