The second-seeded Elise Mertens (Belgium) advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Jasmin Open Monastir. The Belgian tennis player defeated Iryna Shymanovich (Belarus) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) in 1:24 hours of play.
The Belarusian tennis player was first to record a break already in the second game and took a lead by 2:0, but Elise Mertens returned the break immediately and after two more breaks in the 7th and 9th game of the set succeeded to close it by 6:3. Two more breaks in the second set brought the victory for the Belgian tennis player.
In the quarter-finals, Elise Mertens will face Mai Hontama (Japan), who eliminated Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1).
The Italian tennis players Lucia Bronzetti and Lucrezia Stefanini also qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament after a straight-set victories versus Sara Errani (Italy) and Katarzyna Kawa (Poland), respectively.
