Leylah Fernandez (Canada) won the title at the WTA 250 Hong Kong Tennis Open with a prize money of 259,303 USD.
The 21-year-old Canadian tennis player overcame a set behind to win against Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 6:4) in 2:49 hours to claim her first trophy of the season and third overall of her career. Leylah Fernandez last became a champion in Monterey in 2022, but with her performance in Hong Kong she secured a return to the top 50 of the WTA world ranking.
The Canadian tennis player lost her serve in the third game of the first set, which was enough for her opponent to take the lead. In the second set, Leylah Fernandez led with 4:0 and without problems closed the set at 6:4 to equalize the score.
In the decisive third set, Leylah Fernandez started with a break, and after 3:2 the both players exchanged two breaks each. However, in the tenth game, she led 40:15 and closed the match with her second match point.
In her road to the title, Leylah Fernandez eliminated the top-seeded Victoria Azarenka (Belarus), who retired in the second set, as well as the Russian tennis players Mirra Andreeva and the 5th-seeded Anna Blinkova.
