Jasmine Paolini advanced to the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing

Jasmine Paolini (Italy) advanced to the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing. The Italian tennis player eliminated Yue Yuan (China) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:3, 6:4) in 2:10 hours of play.

The match started strongly for the Chinese tennis player, who won four consecutive games after exchanging one break with her opponent to 2:2. Thus, Yue Yuan closed the set at 6:2.

In the second set, Jasmine Paolini took the initiative at the beginning and lead by 2:0 after a break, but her opponent returned the break immediately. The Italian played broke again for 3:1, which proved to be enough for her to finally win the set by 6:3 and equalize to 1-1.

In the third decisive set, Jasmine Paolini started perfectly with two break and led by 3:0. Although Yue Yuan returned one break, the Italian player was strong enough on her serve and succeeded to close the set at 6:4 and to qualify for the third round, where will face the winner between the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) and Katie Boulter (UK).

Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine) also advanced to the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing after a straight set victory versus Daria Saville (Australia). The Ukrainian player took the victory by 2-0 (6:2, 7:6) in 1:47 hours of play.

Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) also qualified for the third round, but without playing after walkover of Czech teenager Linda Noskova.
