The second-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing after defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 1:35 hours of play.
The match started equally and Iga Swiatek first reached two breakpoint at the serve of her opponent but failed to realize them. However, in the serve game of Sara Sorribes Tormo she succeeded to break her and took a lead of 3:2. Sara Sorribes Tormo returned the break immediately and equalized to 3:3, but Iga Swiatek broke again on zero and thus kept her advance to 4:3. This proved to be enough for the Polish tennis player to win the set by 6:4.
In the second set, Iga Swiatek started convincingly by two breaks and leading by 3:0. Since then, both players did not won a single serve game, but this was in favor of the Polish tennis player, who finally won by 6:3.
In the next round, Iga Swiatek will face the Russian-French tennis player Varvara Gracheva.
The 7th-seeded Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) advanced to the second round after defeating Ashlyn Krueger (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4), while Xinyu Wang (China) eliminated Vera Zvonareva (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).
