Former tennis world number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) admitted she still struggles to play on grass. The 22-year-old Polish tennis player has won four Grand Slam and overall 15 WTA titles, but has never won a trophy on grass.
“I need a few more years to learn to play better on grass. But I’m only 22, so I still have a lot of time, maybe more than ten years. I’m doing my best to win every tournament, in which I’m participating in. But I’m in no rush. I’m proud and happy that this season I’ve played in two grass-court tournaments and reached the semifinals in Bode Homburg and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. It’s a big step in the right direction”, said Iga Swiatek
The Polish tennis player has won four tournaments in 2023, defending her titles at Roland Garros and WTA 500 events at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open (Doha) and Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Stuttgart), in addition to winning her home event at the WTA 250 BNP Paribas Warsaw Open.
She stayed on the top of the WTA ranking for 1 year 5 months and 6 days, standing on the top after the retirement from professional tennis of Ashleigh Barty (Australia) on April 3, 2022.
