The 7th-seeded Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron after defeating Eugenie Bouchard (Canada) by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 6:4) in 2:49 hours of play.
The Russian tennis player started the match hesitantly giving four breakpoints to her opponent already in the first game, but finally succeeded to win her serve. In the next game even broke her opponent and after securing the break by winning her serve on zero, she had a comfortable lead of 3:0. Both players won their serve games easily without giving a breakpoint tp 5:3. In the 8th game of the set, Veronika Kudermetova succeeded to break her opponent once again and thus to close the set at 6:3.
The second set started in favor of Eugenie Bouchard, who took a lead of 3:1 after breaking the serve of her opponent. However, in the 6th game, Veronika Kudermetova equalized to 3:3, returning the break on zero. The set continue running equally with both players winning their serving games and exchanging another break in the 9th and 10th game. Thus, the set entered into a tiebreak, which Eugenie Bouchard won by 7-4.
The third decisive set was started strongly for Veronika Kudermetova, who had 4 breakpoints already in the first game, but missed all of them. However, she succeeded to break her opponent in the third game, although missing three more breakpoints. She took a lead of 3:1, but Eugenie Bouchard succeeded to equalize to 3:3. However, Veronika Kudermetova broke again and by the end of the set did not give any breakpoint to her opponent, closing the set by 6:4.
In the next round she will face the winner between the 10th-seeded Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine).
Martina Trevisan also advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron after winning the all-Italian clash with Jasmine Paolini by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2).
The American tennis player Hailey Baptiste brought another surprise in the tournament after eliminating the 16th-seeded Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (7:6, 5:7, 7:6) in 2:52 hours of play. In the third round, she will face the winner between Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) and the 3rd-seeded Caroline Garcia (France).
