The world’s No 1 Ashleigh Barty was named WTA Player of the Year for the second time and the US Open champion Emma Raducanu took the Newcomer of the Year title.
Ashleigh Barty made a good season despite her injuries in the second half of the year. She won the title at WTA 500 Yarra Valley Classic, WTA 1000 Miami Open, WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open, and Wimbledon. She was the runner-up at WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open and reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. Ashleigh Barty is the permanent world’s No 1 since September 8, 2019.
The British talent Emma Raducanu won the award for the Newcomer of the Year. She started the year at world’s No 345 and ended at No 19. During the season she won the titles at the US Open, was the runner up at the WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series, and reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
