Garbine Muguruza won the title at the 2021 WTA Finals in Guadalajara. The world’s No 5 Spanish player won the final match versus Estonian Anett Kontaveit by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5) for an hour and a half. This is one of the most prestigious titles won by Garbine Muguruza after the 2016 French Open and the 2017 Wimbledon.
The match was equal without serious dominance by neither of the players. Anett Kontaveit was serving first in one of the longest games of the match. However, after saving one breakpoint and three deuces, the Estonian player won the game. Garbine Muguruza was quite faster in her service, winning by 15. Anett Kontaveit serviced in the third game of the first set and despite saving three breakpoints and four deuces lost the game and the Spanish tennis player took a lead. However, Garbine Muguruza was not able to defend the break and the Estonian succeeded to win the fourth game, which equalized the result. The next two games were won relatively easily without breaks and the result wen 3:3. Anett Kontaveit served in the seventh game, but again was not stable enough and gave three breakpoints to Garbine Muguruza, who did not miss the chance and take a lead. This time she defended the break and registered another break at the end of the set to win it by 6:3.
The second set started game-for-game without breaks by 3:3 and both players had their chances, but failed. In the seventh game, Anett Kontaveit did not miss her chance to break the service game of Garbine Muguruza and took a lead. She even defended her service game, but the Spanish player did not retreat. In the tenth game, Anett Kontaveit was serving for the set, but failed and lost on 15. Garbine Muguruza won her next service game and when everything was running to tiebreak, The Estonian player made fatal errors and suffered another break, which brought the win to Garbine Muguruza by 7:5.
Thus, the Spanish world’s No 5 Garbine Muguruza won one of the most prestigious titles in her career. Since turning professional in 2012, she has won ten singles titles, including two majors, the 2016 French Open and the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2021 WTA Finals
