The third-seeded Karolina Pliskova took a hard win versus the world’s No 5 Garbine Muguruza in her opening match of the WTA Finals in Guadalajara. The Czech tennis player needed almost two hours and a half to get the win versus the powerful Spaniard to win by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 7:6). Karolina Pliskova recorded four breaks, eight aces, and nine double faults.
Karolina Pliskova started the first set, winning her service game after overcoming a deuce. She succeeded to break the first service game of Garbine Muguruza but failed to defend the break, and immediately the result was equalized. The Spaniard took a lead in the fifth game after recording a break. Both players won their service games by the end of the set and thus Garbine Muguruza won by 6:4.
The second set started just like the first. Karolina Pliskova won her first service game and recorded an immediate break. However, this time she defended it and took a lead by 3:0. The set continues game by game for both players. In the eighth game, Karolina Pliskova recorded another break and won the set by 6:2.
The third set started with the exchange of breaks for both players, which was filled by equal game and winning of the service games. The set was running at 6:6 and entered into a tiebreak, which was won by Karolina Pliskova by 8:6. The Czech player missed the first match point at 6:5 but finally won.
