Chinese tennis player Zhu Lin eliminated the top-seeded Caroline Garcia (France) in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals of the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land in Cleveland with a prize pool of 271,363 USD.
Zhu Lin beat Caroline Garcia by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in a match that lasted an hour and 27 minutes. The Chinese tennis player took advantage of her strong start in the match, led 3:0 and won the first set, and in the second set she gave only a game to the French player. It was Zhu Lin’s second win over a top 10 player in her career.
“I’m really proud of my performance today”, said the Chinese player in her on-court interview. Her opponent in the semi-finals will be the 4th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia).
In the quarterfinals, Ekaterina Alexandrova dealt with another representative of China, Wang Xinyu, after a turnaround with by 2-1 (5:7, 6:0, 7:5) in nearly two hours of play. The Russian was decisive after losing the first set, and in the decisive third part she made two breaks against the Chinese to overcome her.
In the other semi-final, Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) will face Tatjana Maria (Germany). The Spanish player eliminated the ninth-seeded Sloane Stephens (USA), who first had to successfully finish her match against Mirra Andreeva (Russia) from the second round – 6:3, 6:3. The Spaniard later defeated Sloane Stephens by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) in 74 minutes of play.
Tatjana Maria prevailed over Leylah Fernandez (Canada) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2) in a match that lasted an hour and 24 minutes.
