Top-seeded Caroline Garcia (France) advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land in Cleveland (USA) with a prize pool of 271,363 USD.

In a match of the second round, participating with the “wild card” Caroline Garcia, who is seventh in the world ranking at the moment, defeated Peyton Stearns (USA) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3). The match lasted an hour and 38 minutes.

The Frenchwoman started unconvincingly and conceded a 3:5 deficit in the first set, but turned it over to 6:5 and won after a tiebreak. In the second set, she led with a break for 4:2 against the 21-year-old Peyton Stearns and did not lose her lead until the end of the match.

In the quarterfinals, Caroline Garcia will face Zhu Lin (China), who eliminated Julia Grabher (Austria) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in an hour and 28 minutes of play.

Another Chinese tennis player reached the quarterfinals. Wang Xinyu eliminated the 11th-seeded Jasmine Paolini (Italy) after 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in a match that lasted an hour and 24 minutes.

Leylah Fernandez (Canada) entered the top 8 of the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land in Cleveland after 6:0 and Denmark’s Klara Towson retiring in the second set after 25 minutes of play.

Leylah Fernandez’s rival in the quarterfinals will be the winner of the match between the 5th-seeded Ukrainian tennis player Anhelina Kalinina and Tatjana Maria (Germany), who a little earlier defeated Varvara Gracheva (France) by 2-1 (6:2, 2:6, 6:1).
