The US Open tennis champion Emma Raducanu was eliminated in the second round of the WTA 250 tennis tournament on hard courts in Linz (Austria).
The young British talent lost to 20-year-old Xinyu Wang (China) with 2-1 (6:1, 6:7, 7:5) in 2:36 hours. Xinyu Wang gave only a game to Emma Raducanu in the first set, but in the second set the Briton took the lead with 4:2. The Chinese took three consecutive games and made a turnaround 5:4, after which both won their services. In the tiebreak, however, Emma Raducanu did not give a point to her opponent and equalized the score. In the third set, Xinyu Wang was the first to break through for 5:4, and in the next game, she missed two match points and lost her service.
The Chinese broke Raducanu again in the 11th game and closed the match with her third matchball. In the quarterfinals, Xinyu Wang will play against eighth-seeded Alison Riske (USA), who eliminated Alize Cornet (France) with 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).
World No. 2 Simona Halep (Romania) continues in the quarterfinals after success over Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) with 2-0 (7:5, 6:3). In a dispute for a place in the semifinals, Simona Halep will play against the seventh-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Zheng Saisai (China) with 2-1 (6:1, 2:6, 6:4).
The third-seeded Daniel Collins (USA) won against Greet Minnen (Belgium) with 2-1 (6:1, 6:2) and in the quarterfinals will meet Alison Van Uytvanck (Belgium), who eliminatedLesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) with 2-0 (6:0, 6:3).
